The Dalai Lama, on May 16, made a simple but powerful statement regarding the “education” system that it overtly focused on material goals, with a disturbing disregard for inner values.
This, in fact, is generally what most people in today’s world consider “education” to be and represent. A way to be able to “earn a good living” and buy the things you want. Far too often people choose a career path based on materialistic gain, rather than deeper meaningful purpose.
If the opposite were true about the school system, children would be taught about the importance of meditation or positive thinking. They would learn about cultivating inner happiness and peace. And, above all, they would be taught how to discover inner purpose.
