Lebron James is one of the most famous basket ball players in the world today and has even been called by some the greatest basket ball player in the world, with the potential to be the greatest of all time.
Lebron was born in Akron, Ohio, and started out with a tough child hood, where he and his family were financially living in poverty. As a result, they sent James to live with the family of Frank Walker.
Frank Walker was actually instrumental in inspiring James to follow the path of professional basketball.
As one of the highest paid professional athletes in the world today, James now has the opportunity to give back to the community and help out children who were not lucky enough to be born into favorable circumstances. This has led to him donating a colossal sum of money to help kids from the Akron area go to college and get a higher level of education.
James teamed up with the University of Akron to provide college educations for students in the community as part of his “I Promise” program.
Full Tuition and the University’s general service fee (about $9,500 annually) will be covered by the scholarship. In total, about 1,100 students, costing just over $41 million will be fully funded by LeBron's program.
This exciting news was announced when LeBron was hosting an event for students at Cedar Point Amusement Park.
At the event, he jovially stated:
“It’s the reason I do what I do. These students have big dreams, and I’m happy to do everything I can to help them get there. They’re going to have to earn it, but I’m excited to see what these kids can accomplish knowing that college is in their futures.”
Although they have not yet determined all the required criteria to qualify for the scholarships,it will likely be given to those who are in need of it most.
