Study Finds That People Who Post Gym Selfies Have A Psychological Problem

Yup, we all have these people in our news feed. Gotta share their workout with the whole entire world, usually accompanied by a selfie of them flexing.
If you suspected these people may have mental issues, then you are correct. At least that’s what researchers from Brunel University concluded
The study discovered that people who constantly brag about fitness tend to demonstrate narcissistic traits, which is the term psychologists use to describe the mental disorder people have in which they gain pleasure from obsessive self admiration.
Their intention is to seek external validation and attention in the form of likes and comments. These people have very little concern for others well being, and constantly look for ways to be the center of attention.

In the study, more than 500 Facebook users took part in a survey that measured five primary personality traits which were neuroticism, openness, extroversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness, to determine whether or not they were narcissists. What was discovered, is that those who were most narcissistic were the gym posers that are always posting gym selfies.

These narcissists also wrote far more status updates about what they eat and their fitness routines.
The researcher wrote

“In this particular survey personality traits such as extroversion, neuroticism, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness were measured. It also found that people who post frequent updates about their boyfriend or girlfriend on social media usually have lower self-esteem and that those post frequent updates about their children more conscientious.”
