FBI Agents Granted Permission To Pose As Alternative Media Writers

FBI agents have been given the go ahead from Washington to impersonate journalists when conducting investigations. Naturally, civil rights groups, legal experts, and other watch dog organizations are critical of the move since the FBI has a history of entrapment.

US news reports

FBI agents may impersonate journalists while conducting undercover investigations, and an agent who posed as an editor with the Associated Press during a 2007 investigation did not violate agency policies, the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General found in a report released Thursday.

The conclusion sparked consternation across social media by journalists, civil rights groups and some legal experts, who have argued that the practice – by its very existence – threatens to heighten public mistrust of reporters, damage journalists' credibility and have a chilling effect on sources and whistleblowers who may fear that their contacts in the media are actually undercover agents.

This is a big deal that should concern us all. The FBI has a troubling history of entrapment and now, by law, they can literally pose as a journalist from any major media outlet and we would never even know. The danger here is easy to see, they are trying to suppress any leaks that could expose the growing corruption in government.

But the FBI is not the only organization that engages in these types of practices, Anderson Cooper of CNN is a former CIA intern and the covert intelligence agency regularly engages in mainstream  media propaganda. One of their most famous large scale operations is that of Operation Mockingbird.

In this operation, the CIA deliberately planted false news stories to influence both domestic and international opinion on world affairs.

The government has long been engaged in these types of activities and has an entire online campaign called Operation Earnest Voice to spread pro government propaganda and argue or troll anyone who challenges this propaganda.

So the next time you encounter some one who is overtly pro government, remember what you read here. The same goes for journalists claiming to represent a certain news outlet but are trying to elicit incriminating information from you.
Your government is not your friend.
